Resilience is a biological process shaped by conditions, not a character trait
The finding: Research on resilience — the capacity to recover from adversity — points to a combination of neurological, physiological, and social factors rather than individual character or willpower alone.
What the study did: A body of research drawing on longitudinal studies, neuroimaging, and stress-response measurement has examined what distinguishes people who recover from significant adversity from those who do not. Factors consistently associated with resilience include regulation of the HPA (hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal) axis stress response, hippocampal integrity, the quality of early life attachment, and the availability of sustained social support. No single factor was determinative — resilience appeared to emerge from the interaction of multiple biological and environmental conditions over time.
What it means: Framing resilience as a personal quality — something you either have or should develop — obscures its dependence on conditions that are not equally available to everyone. People who do not recover quickly from hardship are not failing at resilience. They may be living with conditions — chronic stress, isolation, inadequate sleep, insufficient support — that make recovery biologically harder. Changing those conditions, where possible, is a more accurate response than encouraging greater personal fortitude.
What it doesn’t mean: Agency and individual effort still matter. The science does not eliminate personal capacity — it contextualises it within the conditions that support or undermine it.

I often see that internet gloifies Personal Superiority while underestimating environmental buffers and other factors.
Eg:
Work Hard---Get success
While ignoring network effects, timing, market conditions etc...
The same goes to here.
Humans are adaptive organisms.
Their traits can be shaped by constraints, environments , exposure etc..
Most people compress everything into personal excellence while ignoring other factors.
Good for storytelling but not for accuracy.
